SAG HARBOR, N.Y. (AP) — Pop star Justin Timberlake has been charged with drunken driving in a village in New York's Hamptons. Police in Sag Harbor said he ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane early Tuesday while driving a 2025 BMW in Sag Harbor. The boy band singer-turned-solo star and actor was released without bond after his arraignment. The Suffolk County district attorney’s office says he was charged with a DWI misdemeanor. His next court date was scheduled for July 26. Timberlake’s lawyer and representatives did not immediately return requests for comment from The Associated Press.

A court document says the boy band singer-turned-solo star and actor was driving a BMW in Sag Harbor around 12:30 a.m. when an officer stopped him and determined he was intoxicated.

Ethics probe into Matt Gaetz now reviewing allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use

WASHINGTON (AP) — New details are emerging in the ethics investigation into Florida Republican Matt Gaetz. The House Ethics Committee in an unusual public statement Tuesday confirmed it is reviewing several allegations against the congressman. The committee says it is investigating whether Gaetz engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, whether he accepted improper gifts and whether he sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct. Four other allegations are no longer being investigated. Gaetz has categorically denied all the allegations. The ethics committee cautioned that the existence of the investigation into Gaetz does not mean that any violation occurred.

Kansas lawmakers approve a plan to lure the Chiefs from Missouri by helping to finance a new stadium

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas legislators have approved a plan to lure the Kansas City Chiefs from Missouri by helping the Super Bowl champions finance a new stadium. Lawmakers approved a bill Tuesday that would allow the state to issue bonds to cover up to 70% of the cost of a new stadium in Kansas for the Chiefs and another for Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals. The votes send the measure to Gov. Laura Kelly, who has not said whether she will sign the bill. Kansas lawmakers pursued the offer after voters on the Missouri side of the Kansas City area refused in April to extend a tax to keep up the teams’ stadiums.

Texas megachurch pastor resigns after woman says he sexually abused her in the 1980s

DALLAS (AP) — The pastor of a Texas megachurch has resigned after a woman said he had sexually abused her on multiple occasions in the 1980s, beginning when she was 12. Gateway Church’s board of elders said in a statement Tuesday that they’d accepted the resignation of Robert Morris, the church’s senior pastor and founder. The board said in the statement that it had hired a law firm to to conduct an independent review to make sure they “have a complete understanding of the events” from 1982 to 1987. The allegations came to light Friday on a religious watchdog blog. Morris did not immediately respond Tuesday to a request for comment.

Noam Chomsky's wife says reports of famed linguist's death are false

NEW YORK (AP) — Noam Chomsky’s wife, Valeria Wasserman Chomsky, says reports that the famed linguist and activist had died are untrue. “No, it is false,” she wrote Tuesday in response to an emailed query from The Associated Press. The 95-year-old had been hospitalized in Brazil while recovering from a stroke suffered a year ago. But the Beneficencia Portuguesa hospital in Sao Paulo said Chomsky was discharged on Tuesday to continue his treatment at home. Chomsky is known to millions for his criticisms of U.S. foreign policy. He taught for decades at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Some publications published obituaries for Chomsky, later altering them or taking them down.

Dollar Tree left lead-tainted applesauce pouches on store shelves for weeks after recall, FDA says

Government officials say Dollar Tree stores failed to effectively recall lead-tainted applesauce pouches linked to illness in more than 500 U.S. children. It’s an acknowledgement from a company known for producing hit products that building a financial services business from scratch as Apple has been doing for several years is difficult and highly competitive. Apple Pay Later launched with fanfare in March 2023 as a way for iPhone customers to split purchases of up to $1,000 into four equal payments with no fees or interest.

Plastic surgeon charged in death of wife who went into cardiac arrest while he worked on her

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — A plastic surgeon in the Florida Panhandle has been charged with his wife’s death after she suffered cardiac arrest while he performed after-hours procedures on her in his clinic and died days later. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office says that Benjamin Brown was arrested Monday on a charge of manslaughter by culpable negligence, which is a second-degree felony. His defense attorney says Benjamin Brown intends to plead not guilty and fight the charges. Authorities say his wife, Hillary Brown, went into cardiac arrest in November while her husband was performing procedures on her at his clinic. She was taken to a hospital and died a week later.

PARIS (AP) — Anouk Aimée, the radiant French star and dark-eyed beauty of classic films including Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” and Claude Lelouch’s “A Man and a Woman,” has died. She was 92. Aimée’s agent said in an text message that she died Tuesday morning “surrounded by her loved ones.” Born in Paris to parents who both worked as actors, Aimée worked with an array of acclaimed directors, including Federico Fellini, Bernardo Bertolucci and Robert Altman. She won the Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in 1967, for her role as a widow in a complex romance in “A Man and a Woman,” alongside French film legend Jean-Louis Trintignant.
