Carefully balanced between the dark and the dreamy, Mister Foe is a charged coming-of-age story with whimsy and bite. Read Critics Reviews.
British teenager Hallam Foe (Jamie Bell) still mourns his mother's suicide and refuses to open up to his stepmother, Verity (Claire Forlani). After Verity seduces and blackmails him, Hallam runs away to Edinburgh and meets Kate (Sophia Myles), a manager in a hotel who gives him a job. Kate reminds Hallam of his mother, and he begins spying on her from a clock tower overlooking her apartment. Gradually, Hallam and Kate form a complicated relationship as he tries to cope with his mother's death.

In a brief but haunting image toward the end of this film, a brilliantly white swan moves across the surface of a dark, forbidding loch surrounded by steep, brooding hills. It seemed to sum up both the film and the titular character nicely - a lone wild creature traversing a hostile environment. For this is Hallam Foe and his journey, a luminous, wayward spirit moving through the dark recesses of his own psyche amid a hostile environment.
