The Parool referred to Restaurante Dona as a gastronomic tribute to grandmothers, and they were right. At Restaurante Dona, the dishes are inspired by the classic Portuguese cuisine and the grandmothers of Sjors Nouwens and Diogo Campaniço. With this, Amsterdam-West has suddenly gained a new culinary hotspot.

Restaurante Dona Amsterdam
The owners of Colibri Gastrobar on Nicolaas Beetsstraat have made way for the Portuguese Restaurante Dona. At Dona, a Portuguese title given to women, everything they do is a tribute to the owners’ grandmothers: Tana, Tonica, Bep, and Nel. They offer Portuguese cuisine with a Dutch twist, including the concept of ‘eating what the pot offers.’ This results in an authentic Portuguese experience, making you feel like dining with the grandmothers. No expense has been spared to import as many items as possible from Portugal, including tableware, pulpo, wines, and olive oil.
The ambiance is also filled with Portuguese vibes: the entire walls are inspired by the old trams that run through the center of Lisbon, and the dishes on the walls are literally from the owners’ grandmothers’ kitchens.

At Restaurante Dona, you can enjoy a four-course menu curated by the chef. They aim to introduce guests to the classic flavors of Portuguese cuisine, which may be new to many Dutch diners. The menu includes dishes like fish bread soup, caramel pudding, and the famous pastel de nata. Additionally, lesser-known dishes like duck with rice and roasted octopus have become popular. Chef Diojo learned the art of cooking from his grandmother at a young age, and you can taste the mastery in the four-course dinner. If you want to be surprised and try something new, Restaurante Dona is the perfect place.
